0) As Josh points out, a concrete goal is to have one or more of our science areas represented in one of the key science questions of the next decade. More broadly, we would like to have CMB-S4 come out as a top-ranked project. The DSR will be critical to that, but communicating our science well through the SWPs can help as well.
1) Add two more papers to the list:
— CMB Science (primary + lensing) summary
— Summary of Science enabled by mm to submm-wave surveys that are primarily motivated by CMB science The purpose of these is to make the subcommittee’s job as easy as possible. We wnat it to be very easy for them to communicate the value of CMB science, and “CMB-enabled” science.

3) There is a tension between having multiple white papers on a topic (e.g., dark matter). More papers can indicate lots of interest, but can also be potentially overwhelming to the committee members. No clear directives here, but we should strive to make the science important to us as easy as possible for the committee to absorb, and we should avoid having apprently contradictory messages. Coordination with other groups will be helpful. In some cases this coordination will mean writing one paper on a topic, but not in all cases.
4) Who’s the audience? Some physics, but mostly Astro. Make-up of 2010 relevant subcommittee is available online and might be useful to check out.
5) We will provide some top-down coordination, but this mostly has to be a bottoms-up, grass roots effort. If you see things that should be done, and aren’t being done, then figure out what to do and do it. And be sure to communicate about it to avoid duplication, and to make sure this process converges well. People should be empowered to take action. Use the CMB community wiki.
6) White papers should focus on communicating what’s exciting about the science. Forecasts for particular projects are probably necessary as part of this, but are not expected to be dominant part of the white papers.
7) Some of the listed papers will be led by other groups — the CMB community coordinators for these should be ensuring that the CMB role in this science is appropriately included/presented.
8) Some NASA groups (COSMIC and IP SIG) are offering to help facilitate this process — Graca will email all co-ccordinators of papers, as well as the S4 Science Council, about what they can provide (e.g., a telecon line that is not a telecon line for a particular CMB-S4 project).
9) No one objected to having both authors and endorsers. Seems like a good thing to do.
10) Gil and Lloyd together with leadership of PICO and LiteBIRD will suggest a schedule that facilitates coordination — one that includes an opportunity for comment/feedback and coordination across papers prior to submission.
Lloyd: Goal of white papers = make the case for each science topic.
Mari: White papers combine CMB and large-scale structure observables
Lloyd: The list of white papers on the wiki should reflect all the science coming out of CMB. We want to make sure the CMB contribution is reflected in each science case.
Mari: Do we get in touch with other communities, e.g. for dark energy?
Josh Friedman: Yes, other communities will try to coordinate with CMB if that makes sense. So yes, CMB groups should try to coordinate with other groups.
Mari: So who are the other people, and how to get in touch?
Renee: Get in touch with LSST DESC, DESI leads etc.
Gracia: COSMIC should try to facilitate this.
Vera: There is an Astro2020 Slack channel where people are organizing who is doing what. Goal of science white papers is to prioritize the science. Also, repetition of science topic is not a bad thing.
Lloyd: Coordination is good, even if different communities write white papers on the same science topic. Vera will email people about the Astro2020 SLAC channel.
Renee: We should make sure not to say that we have the only way to measure something.
Vera/Mari: Who is the audience?

Josh: We should coordinate papers, but not have an internal review.
Lloyd: Deadline is Jan 19th.
Lloyd: Have CMB science summary — 5 page paper.
Lyman: The CMB summary paper is the one that should have ~300 people sign on. The others don’t need that.
